Dish Network struck a deal with Time Warner Inc.'s HBO to offer subscribers access to the premium programmer's authenticated HBOGo and MaxGo services -- and the satellite operator pointed out that Netflix doesn't offer any of the 1,800-plus titles on its streaming service.
Dish joins HBO's TV Everywhere roster two weeks after rival DirecTV. Other affiliates that offer HBOGo and MaxGo are Comcast, Cox Communications, AT&T U-verse TV and Verizon FiOS TV. HBO has indicated it has no intention of licensing online-streaming rights to nontraditional distributors such as Netflix.
Dish customers customers who subscribe to the HBO or Cinemax TV packages can access online video from anywhere in the U.S., over any broadband connection, via DISHOnline.com, HBOGO.com or MAXGO.com.
Content includes most of the respective current HBO or Cinemax programming inventory, including movies such as Avatar, The Hangover and Up In The Air, and episodes of original series like Boardwalk Empire and True Blood. HBOGo offers some 1,400 titles and Max Go offers more than 400 Hollywood movies and content including the Max After Dark series.
"Dish Network is thrilled to be working with HBO to bring this broad collection of top-billed content to our customers for instant access at DISHOnline.com," Dish senior vice president of programming Dave Shull said in a statement. "Dish Network customers with an HBO or Cinemax subscription can also get new series titles after their premiere -- plus bonus content including interviews, recaps and behind-the-scenes extras - none of which are available through Netflix's online service."
Overall, DISHOnline.com offers more than 150,000 movies, TV shows, clips and trailers. The site launched in September 2010 and provides content from Hulu, Discovery Communications, Scripps Networks, Viacom's MTV and Nickelodeon, Epix, Starz Entertainment, Ovation and Encore.
