While Tennis Channel still has business to attend to during its fifth year of French Open coverage, the network is also spinning its serve in this week with Wheel of Fortune.
The syndicated show will present its first-ever "Tennis Week" from May 30 through June 2, featuring a host of tournament-tinged prizes and top player appearances.
Tennis Channel worked with the Women's Tennis Association, Association of Tennis Professionals and the United States Tennis Association to provide the featured packages for Wheel of Fortune, which include luxury vacation trips tied to upcoming major tennis tournaments: the French Open in Paris, the Australian Open in Melbourne, the U.S. Open in New York, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, and the Sony Ericsson Championships in Istanbul.
Former world No. 1 and Tennis commentator Tracy Austin will visit show hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White on set to kick off "Tennis Week" on Wheel of Fortune. Throughout the period, some of the world's top tennis players past and present, including Billie Jean King, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Navratilova, will appear in show openings, bumpers and closing segments and to award the prize packages.
Moreover, as part of "Tennis Week," White attended the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif. in March to tape some segments for the five episodes, including taking a tennis lesson from the top-ranked men's doubles team, the Bryan Brothers.
Tennis' cameras were on location and in the studio to capture behind-the-scenes footage for a special "Tennis Week" news and notes section that is currently airing on Tennis Channel and is also posted on TennisChannel.com. The cable network will tout the themed week with a heavy schedule of promos, according to channel officials.
