The Cable Center's board of directors elected Suddenlink Communications chairman and CEO Jerry Kent as its new chairman, taking over for Insight Communications CEO Michael Willner.

Willner officially passed the gavel at The Cable Center's Cable Hall of Fame Celebration last week as part of the 2011 Cable Show. The board also elected two new members: Bright House Networks president Nomi Bergman and Motorola Mobility president Dan Moloney.

The Denver-based Cable Center is the nonprofit educational arm of the cable industry. Its program areas include the Cable Mavericks Lecture Series, Customer Care Central, the Cable Hall of Fame and the Barco Library.

Kent, who co-founded Charter Communications in 1993, is currently also CEO and a member of the board of Suddenlink parent company Cequel III, whose businesses include cable, data centers, and tower services and construction. He also serves on the executive committee and board of trustees for Washington University; and the boards for CableLabs, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, C-SPAN, and Cable in the Classroom. He also is chairman of the Regional Justice Information Service and The Magic House/St. Louis Children's Museum.

"I'm honored to serve as The Cable Center's Chairman of the Board," Kent said in a statement. "It is a privilege to work with The Cable Center's experienced and talented staff and Board as we continue to move forward with our strategic goals and plans."

"We welcome Jerry as our new Chairman of the Board," Cable Center president and CEO Larry Satkowiak commented. "Jerry brings a wealth of wisdom and leadership to his new role, and we look forward to working with him to further the reach of our industry programs. We'd also like to thank Michael Willner, our immediate past Chairman, for his leadership and guidance over the past three years."
