Metaswitch Gets Nod As 'Best New Idea' At CableLabs Confab

Vendor One of 10 Presenters in Summer Conference Innovation Showcase

A Metaswitch Networks application that lets users share content across different devices during a phone call was voted the "best new idea most likely to succeed," out of 10 company presentations in the Innovation Showcase at CableLabs' 2011 Summer Conference.

The Innovation Showcase format provides companies 10 minutes to demo their products or technologies. The R&D consortium's Summer Conference runs Aug. 7-10 in Keystone, Colo.

Metaswitch's Thrutu for iPhoneMetaswitch's Thrutu for iPhoneMetaswitch demonstrated Thrutu, an in-call content sharing application for PCs, smartphones and tablet computers, designed to work across business, residential and mobile customers. The app can let a caller share location, photos and contact information, as well as "prod" someone by making their phone vibrate.

"Thrutu gives carriers a way to bring new and creative services to their voice subscribers by letting users instantly share all manner of interactive content and media during a phone conversation," Metaswitch CEO Kevin DeNuccio said in a statement. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with the cable operators to bring these Thrutu capabilities to their customers."

The other presenting companies were:

* Arris, which showed a centralized, stateful controller for supervising IP video streams in an on-net IP video network; a DOCSIS 3.0 100 Mbps symmetrical business service; a gateway for delivering cloud-based services; and HD Voice on DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 eMTAs;

* Clearleap, which presented its cloud-based content management and distribution platform;

* Ctera Networks, which showed a cloud-attached storage solution that makes use of customer-premises devices to provide storage and backup services;

* Dyyno, which presented a solution for MSOs to monetize over-the-top content;

* FourthWall Media, which showed off a feature of its AdWidgets platform called "addressable versioning," which can deliver four different requst for information (RFI) offers from the same spot based on different targeting criteria;

* Ignite Solutions, which demonstrated its technology to let EBIF applications for legacy devices to be delivered with the same look and feel and functionality to next-generation devices based on Web technologies;

* Manilla, which showed its online service for managing household and financial accounts, travel rewards programs and subscriptions securely online;

* Tely Labs, which demonstrated its telyHD set-top box for HD Skype video calling, web browsing, Android apps and over-the-top services on the living-room TV; and

* ViVu, a provider of enterprise-class videoconferencing, which showed applications allowing collaboration across multiple platforms.
