The New York Yankees clinched the American League last night and gave YES Network its second-highest rated telecast of the 2011 season.
With the Bronx Bombers' 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Ray secured by a pinch-hit, two-run eighth inning single by Jorge Posada, YES averaged a 7.01 household rating and some 640,000 viewers in the New York DMA, according to Nielsen data.
The Sept. 21 telecast peaked at a 9.07 average rating in the 11 p.m. quarter hour, translating into 863,000 total viewers. Yanks-Rays was YES's highest-rated telecast not involving the team's arch-rival the Boston Red Sox since the Yanks-Toronto Blue Jays plated a 7.40 mark on April 1, 2008.
Last night's Yankees post-game registered a 3.40 rating, as some 296,000 viewers watched the club celebrate with champagne. That marked the second-highest-rated Yankees post-game show this season, according to YES officials.
YES's highest-rated telecast of this season came on Sept. 1 with its coverage of Yankees-Red Sox, which scored a 7.70 and 733,000 viewer average.
