Cable-Tec Expo: SCTE Names Charter's Gorman Member Of The Year

Null, Cordova Inducted Into SCTE Hall of Fame; Comcast's Adams Receives Women in Technology Award

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers honored Tom Gorman, vice president of field operations at Charter Communications, with the SCTE Member of the Year Award, citing his work in changing the structure and mission of the organization's board of directors.

Tom GormanCharter's Tom GormanGorman -- a past SCTE chairman -- has led the group's planning committee through the process of revising bylaws, policies and procedures. The changes are designed to ensure SCTE is "at the forefront of technological change in the cable telecommunications industry and to empower SCTE to be an effective peer among leading industry organizations."

SCTE bestowed the award and others at its Annual Awards Luncheon at Cable-Tec Expo here Tuesday.

The SCTE Hall of Fame inducted two members: Harold Null Sr., formerly vice president of engineering for Storer Cable who is now retired, and Suddenlink Communications chief Terry Cordova. Cordova, the program committee chairman for this year's Cable-Tec Expo, also was honored with the SCTE Chairman's Award, selected by former SCTE chairman Bob Foote.

The Women in Technology Award, sponsored by Bright House Networks, was presented to Susan Adams, senior vice president of engineering and technical operations for Comcast's Northeast Division. Adams leads the technical teams responsible for building and maintaining Comcast's voice, video, and data networks serving approximately 7.8 million customers across 14 states from Maine through Virginia.

This year's SCTE Excellence in Standards Award honoree is Dr. Jeffrey Krauss, president of Telecommunications & Technology Policy. As a member of the SCTE Digital Video Subcommittee (DVS), Krauss has chaired the following drafting groups: SCTE 28, SCTE 128, SCTE 157 and SCTE 40. Dr

SCTE also recognized its newest set of SCTE Senior Members, who have demonstrated technical competence, active participation in SCTE and industry affairs, and high standards of professionalism, and they have been SCTE members for at least five years and have at least 10 years of technology experience. They are Tim Holzer of InnoTrans Communications; Steven K. Richey of 4Cable TV; and Michael Timberlake of Time Warner Cable.
