SCTE Teams With Georgia Tech For Management Program

One-Week Course Aimed at Midlevel Cable Engineering and Management Pros

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 12/8/2011 10:53:23 AM

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers is working with the Georgia Institute of Technology's College of Management to create a one-week course on management skills aimed at midlevel cable engineering and operations pros.

The duo's Cable Industry Management Development Program, set to run May 7-11, 2012, will be held at Georgia Tech's Atlanta campus. The course will cost "in the range of $6,000" per participant, SCTE said.

The program will give participants the opportunity to acquire or improve the "strategic and tactical skills needed to succeed within corporate environments," SCTE said, as well as plan and execute projects and manage in-house and external resources.

The program is designed to complement SCTE's Tuck Executive Leadership Program at Dartmouth College, held for the first time last April, which is focused on more senior-level cable-technology executives.

"The rapid evolution of cable technology and services is fertile ground for management case studies," Dr. Saby Mitra, associate professor of information technology management at Georgia Tech, said in a statement. "Working closely with SCTE, we are creating a program that brings together timely issues for the cable industry and a world-renowned faculty to foster the critical thinking and decision-making that are characteristic of successful managers."

SCTE chief technology officer Dan Howard added, "Georgia Tech's ability to combine business and technology into a single course of study will serve as a catalyst for helping cable engineers to advance their careers and bring greater value to their employers."

More information on the SCTE-Georgia Tech program is available here.
