Las Vegas — Warpia, a unit of technology distribution and logistics firm Source R&D, is introducing WarpiaTV, a $200 wireless system for streaming Web video and other content -- including from Netflix, YouTube and Amazon -- from personal computers to big-screen HDTVs that includes a motion-detection controller.
The WarpiaTV system includes a wireless motion controller, wireless USB receiver and transmitter and HDMI cable. The product uses TV-optimized browser software and motion-controller technology licensed from Hillcrest Labs.
According to Warpia, the product lets users stream any content from their notebook or PC wirelessly to an HDTV up to 30 feet away in full 1080p HD with stereo audio. The included Wireless Motion Controller provides the ability to control the PC mouse cursor and seven functions including volume, mute and escape. Hillcrest Labs' Freespace lets users move the controller in the air to control on-screen navigation.
"We are thrilled to partner with Hillcrest Labs to bring our successful line of streaming solutions to a new level, offering a product that provides the ultimate entertainment solution for the home," Mike Walsh, president of Source R&D's Warpia brand, said in a statement. "With this addition to our line of products, Warpia now offers more streaming solutions for the home or business than similar companies in the market."
Other companies demonstrating products that use Hillcrest's technology at CES include LG Electronics, which is embedding the motion technology in its smart TV products.
"Today's announcement demonstrates continued interest in Hillcrest's solutions by major CE manufacturers to support their current and future product lines," Hillcrest Labs founder and CEO Dan Simpkins said in a statement.
Hillcrest's previously announced licensees include: Eastman Kodak, Logitech, Roku, SMK, Sony Computer Entertainment and Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI).
