TCA: Current TV: Olbermann Will Lead Network's Political  Coverage

Gore: Network Not For Sale

by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 1/13/2012 7:37:46 PM

Current TV on-air personality Keith Olbermann will lead the network's 2012 political coverage, although he was a no show at the network's TCA presentation Friday.

Current TV chairman Al Gore also put to rest rumors of the network's potential sale, saying during the presentation that the network is not on the block.

Current TV president David Bohrman said to a packed room of TV critics that Obermann, who reportedly had a recent dustup with Current executives over coverage of the recent Iowa caucuses, initially declined to anchor the network's political coverage but is expected to lead the network's coverage going forward.

He added that Olbermann was "on vacation" and was unable to attend Friday's event, which elicited chuckles from the assembled press.

"We've been told that he will lead the network's political coverage going forward ... that's what we want," said  Bohrman.

The network also announced that it will launch its primetime series The War Room With Jennifer Granholm Jan. 30. The hour-long program will be hosted each weeknight by former two-term Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, said network executives.

Gore dismissed rumors that the network was up for sale, adding Current TV will continue to embrace its independent news voice gong inot the 2012 Presidential elections.

"We pride ourselves on being independent," Gore said. "It empowers us."
