Comcast Widens Home Security Rollout In New Hampshire

Service Enabled by iControl Provides Remote Monitoring and Management Features

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 1/18/2012 11:00:21 AM

Comcast has expanded its home security and automation offering in the Granite State, launching the service this week throughout southern New Hampshire from Peterborough to Portsmouth.

The expanded rollout comes after the MSO launched Xfinity Home Security in the Manchester, N.H., area last month. Other markets where Comcast offers the service include Philadelphia, Houston and Portland, Ore.

The Xfinity Home Security Preferred Package starts at $39.95 per month, plus a $199 one-time installation fee. Comcast requires a three-year minimum-term service contract. According to the operator, customers of the service are eligible to receive up to a 20% discount on their homeowners insurance.

Xfinity Home Security is provided through the broadband-based "smart home" platform from iControl Networks. The service offers traditional home security components, including police and fire dispatch with 24/7 professional monitoring, as well as the ability to adjust digital thermostats, turn lights on or off and watch live streaming video from wireless cameras over the Internet.

Comcast uses a third-party alarm-monitoring provider, COPS Monitoring, based in Williamstown, N.J., to handle emergency dispatch functions.

"Xfinity Home Security brings digital home monitoring to a new level," Comcast senior vice president and general manager of new businesses Mitch Bowling said in a statement. "It comes with a range of broadband-based technologies that empower customers to stay better connected to their home virtually anytime, anywhere."

Customers also can download the free Xfinity Security app from Apple's iTunes App Store, to securely access home security and automation features including live video streaming via an iPad or iPhone. More info on Xfinity Home Security is available at xfinity.com/homesecurity.
