NCTA To Reprise 'Park' Venue At 2012 Cable Show

Exhibit Area to Focus on Broadband, New Media Products and Services

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association will bring back "The Park" for this year's Cable Show in Boston, redubbing it "Imagine Park," as a venue to showcase new products and services.

The Imagine Park exhibit area will evoke Beantown's famous public gathering spot -- the Boston Common -- centered around an amphitheater with "ample accommodation" for show-goers, NCTA said. The 2012 Cable Show is set to take place May 21-23 at the Boston Convention & Exposition Center.

Imagine Park's "TV-talk-show-style" sessions will occur throughout the show. It also will feature food carts and café seating, and will showcase concepts and products from local tech startups and Boston-area colleges and universities. The exhibit will be situated next to CableNet, the technology showcase area hosted by CableLabs.

"Imagine Park is a high-visibility platform for unveiling innovative new products, concepts and services that help make entertainment engaging, personal and convenient for consumers," NCTA president and CEO Michael Powell said in a statement. "Cable is enabling a new era of powerful consumer devices and providing limitless entertainment choices for customers. Imagine Park is where you can see it all first."

At the 2011 Cable Show in Chicago, The Park included panel discussions on broadband adoption, the connected home and TV Everywhere, as well as live consumer focus groups hosted by Scripps Networks Interactive.

NCTA will stream presentations and panels from Imagine Park live and on-demand at live.thecableshow.com.

The trade group is soliciting proposals for Imagine Park from exhibitors, NCTA member companies, research firms and others at www.thecableshow.com/thepark. Presentations should focus on residential or commercial cable services, consumer electronics or trends in the modern telecommunications industry, the NCTA said.

The deadline for proposals is March 31, 2012. Submissions will be evaluated by a working group of the NCTA Convention Committee and selected presenters will be notified in mid-April.
