SCTE Conference At Dartmouth Adds Focus On Women In Cable

Panel Discussion to Feature Bright House's Bergman, SeaChange's Kanouff and Comcast's Field

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business announced the addition of several events to their executive-leadership program this spring focused on opportunities for women in cable engineering.

The SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program, to run April 29 to May 4, 2012, at Dartmouth's Hanover, N.H., campus, is $10,250 per attendee.

The conference will include a panel on May 2 that is scheduled to include: Nomi Bergman, president of Bright House Communications; Yvette Kanouff, president of SeaChange International; and Charlotte Field, senior vice president of infrastructure and operations of Comcast's national engineering and technical operations group. Following a dinner for all participants in the SCTE-Tuck program, there will be a networking reception for women attendees.

On May 4, women attendees will have a private luncheon with Marshall Goldsmith, an executive coach and author of Mojo and What Got You Here Won't Get You There.

"The shortage of women engineers is depriving our industry of a significant pool of talent, just at the time when demand for new services and expertise is increasing," SCTE senior vice president of operations Cathy Oakes said in a statement. "The inclusion of diversity programs within our SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program, as well as at our Cable Industry Management Development Program with Georgia Tech later in May, is designed to provide women and others with the support they need to choose and thrive in cable engineering careers."

Also scheduled as guest speakers for the weeklong SCTE-Tuck conference are three top Comcast Cable execs: president and CEO Neil Smit, CTO Tony Werner and chief network officer John Schanz.

The SCTE's deadline for attendee applications is Feb. 15.
