ESPN crew and talent, including Chris Berman's 30th appearance, has set up shop in Indianapolis as the worldwide leader will televise more than 110 hours of television and radio programming leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.
The network's live coverage will originate from an outdoor set at Pan American Plaza located near Lucas Oil Stadium, site of the NFL championship game between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. With more than 25 on-air hosts, analysts, reporters and contributors on the scene, the sports programming giant will disseminate news and reports across 18 platforms: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Classic, ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, ESPNews HD, ESPN Deportes HD, ESPN International, ESPN.com, ESPN Radio, ESPNRadio.com, ESPN Deportes Radio, ESPNdeportes.com, ESPN The Magazine, WatchESPN, and ESPN Mobile properties.
All shows originating from Pan Am Plaza will be available for free public viewing, where the on-site operation comprises a 62-foot-by-40-foot outdoor set, enclosed in glass and overlooking Lucas Oil Stadium; a 24-foot-by-48-foot demo field; aerial views via a "flycam" that spans 300 feet and is suspended 30 feet in the air; a pair of 16-foot-by-9-foot LED screens for fan viewing of ESPN's on-site programs; and two pod camera locations that showcase the downtown skyline, Union Station and the stadium.
Among the new additions to ESPN's coverage game plan in 2012 are themed SportsCenter specials that will air Jan. 30- Feb. 3 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with host Steve Levy and NFL insiders John Clayton, Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter discussing league news on Monday and Tuesday. On Feb. 1, Mike Tirico, Trent Dilfer and Merril Hoge will examine safety and head injuries, while the Monday Night Football team of Tirico, John Gruden and Ron Jaworski preview the Big Game the following day. On Friday, Tirico leads conversations with analysts Tedy Bruschi, Dilfer, Mike Ditka, Gruden, Keyshawn Johnson, Jerry Rice, Mark Schlereth and Steve Young, as they weigh in on the title tilt.
Hannah Storm will host the special NFL Face to Face with a quartet of the game's top newsmakers this past season -- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Carolina Panthers rookie signal-caller Cam Newton, the Detroit Lions controversial defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay -- on Jan. 31 at 9 p.m.
On Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. Bill Parcells' Super Bowl Confidential will bring Big Game insights to ESPN viewers, as Tirico taps the coach's 30 years of pro football experience, including taking the combatants to the championship (Giants in 1986 and 1990, Patriots in 1996) and his relationships with this year's head coaches, who previously served on his staff.
