Comcast Signs Multiyear Extension With Amdocs

Vendor Also Cites Strong Performance in Europe, Emerging Markets

Comcast inked a multiyear extension of its existing software license and services agreements with Amdocs for various components in its Customer Experience System portfolio for billing and customer care.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Comcast is widely recognized for their industry leadership and we look forward to continuing to serve as a provider of systems and services in support of their operations," Amdocs division president Brian Shepherd said in a statement.

Separately, St. Louis-based reported results for its first fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011. The company posted revenue of $807 million, up 4.1% as compared with the prior-year period. Net income was $92.7 million, or $0.53 per diluted share, versus $73.4 million a year earlier.

The company's results benefitted from strong performance in emerging markets and Europe, "somewhat tempered by slower spending at AT&T in conjunction with the cancellation of the merger with T-Mobile," Amdocs CEO Eli Gelman said in announcing the results.

In addition to the Comcast agreement, Amdocs landed three deals in Latin America during the quarter. The company has more than 19,000 employees serving customers in more than 60 countries.

Also Wednesday, Amdocs launched of two new solutions aimed at letting service providers enter the connected-devices market.

Amdocs M2M (Machine-to-Machine) is a prepackaged solution for applications such as smart utility meters, connected electrical vehicles and connected wellness. Amdocs Connected Home is a network-based solution lets service providers to launch prepackaged home and business services such as remote security, energy, health and multimedia.
