In Demand, Academy Team On Oscar Campaign

Movies On Demand Features Nominated Films, Past Winners

by Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 2/17/2012 5:13:39 PM

In Demand is teaming with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to promote Oscar-relevant on-demand movies.

With the Academy Award telecast coming up on Feb. 26, "it is imperative for Movies On Demand to be part of the conversation, since many of the nominated and winning films can be viewed right now on cable's MOD platform," In Demand chief creative officer Stacie Gray said in a statement. "We want to bring this message to movie-lovers wherever they might be, in or out-of-home."Elevator screen still from CaptivateElevator screen still from Captivate

Viewers can relive past Oscar telecast highlights on MOD via In Demand owner affiliates Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks and on many system websites through a new promotional content partnership with the Academy. Content includes monologues, memorable acceptance speeches and show highlights.

Online content is also available on rentmoviesondemand.com.

In Demand's campaign will include 30-second spots shown in movie theatres; promos in hotel elevators (via Captivate Network, pictured); promos in coffee houses (via Café Network, from Digicast Networks); a page on TVGuide.com's award section and movie-themed games on gaming site Sporcle.com.

Currently nominated feature films now playing on MOD on cable include: Midnight in Paris (four nominations, including best picture) The Help (a best-picture candidate) and Moneyball (five nominations, including best actor).

Past best-picture Oscar winners now on MOD include American Beauty, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Slumdog Millionaire and The Departed.
