Disney Channel Runs Ratings Win Streak to 36 Weeks Behind Premiere of 'Radio Rebel' Telefilm

Network Tops With Kids 6-11, Tweens in Total Day; Edges Nick among Kids 2-11

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 2/22/2012 1:18:00 PM

Boosted by telefilm Radio Rebel, Disney Channel extended its streak as TV's top network among kids 6 to 11 and tweens 9 to 14 in total day, while also pushing past Nickelodeon among the broad kids demo again.

During the week of Feb. 13-19, Disney Channel averaged a 2.4 rating and 599,000 kids 6 to 11 and a 2.1 rating and 506,000 tweens, running its total-day winning skein with those demos to 36 straight weeks, back to June 13, 2011, according to Nielsen data.

Moreover, Disney Channel officials said the service ranked first for the third consecutive straight week among kids 2 to 11, a network record, with a 2.3 rating and 930,000 of those viewers. That performance also lifted Disney Channel to first place for the fifth time in the prior seven weeks with kids 2 to 11, according to network officials.

Gauged on a total-day basis among total viewers, Nick edged Disney with 1.68 million to 1.67 million watchers, with the networks tied for the second consecutive week with a 0.6 ratings mark.

The Feb. 17 premiere of Radio Rebel from 8 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. stood as the week's top telecast across all TV among kids 2 to 11 (2.4 million/5.8 rating), kids 6 to 11 (2.0 million/8.0 rating) and tweens 9-14 (1.8 million/7.4 rating). The movie, starring Debbie Ryan (Disney's original series Jessie and The Suite Life on Deck), was cable's No. 2 scripted telecast with 4.3 million total viewers.
