WWE Aims Across the Pond

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. said Wednesday that it will extend its brand presence significantly in the United Kingdom over the next year as part of a major global expansion initiative.

The wrestling programmer plans to introduce U.K.-based television production, more live events, promotional programs, licensed product launches and appearances by its superstars.

As part of the initiative, Monday Night Raw and WWE SmackDown! will originate from the Manchester Evening News Arena in October and again next April.

“Our U.K. initiative is groundbreaking for us, our business partners and our fans,” WWE executive vice president of global media Shane McMahon said in a prepared statement. “It will develop the model we plan to use in other countries as we further implement our global expansion strategy.”
