National Show Goes High-Def

The upcoming National Show will sharpen the focus on high-definition, for the first time broadcasting panel sessions nationwide in the format and staging a central HD Pavilion on the show floor (see latest floor plan).
Co-sponsored by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and Cable Television Laboratories Inc., the HD Pavilion will feature 8,000 square feet of display highlighting the latest in HD sets and technology, as well as content, gaming and business applications.
This includes . . .
-
a pumped-up home theater centered on the largest HD screen available
-
multiple mock living rooms showcasing HD video-on-demand, HD digital-video recorders and Microsoft Corp.'s 'Xbox' gaming system in HD
-
a tutorial display explaining point-of-deployment-enabled sets, different digital connector options and the differences between analog, standard digital and HD formats and
-
a retail exhibit featuring various TV-set options; and a video lounge where attendees can view HD content.
High-def programmer HDNet will also provide a production truck on the show floor. The unit will produce live programming, including the broadcast of all of the show's general sessions nationwide for the first time.
Programmers taking part in the pavilion displays are Home Box Office, Showtime Networks Inc. Discovery Networks U.S., ESPN, A&E Television Networks, Madison Square Garden Networks, Bravo, Comcast SportsNet, HDNet and PBS.
Technology vendors include Sony Electronics Corp., Scientific-Atlanta Inc., Microsoft, Philips Consumer Electronics Co., Motorola Inc., Zenith Electronics Corp., nCUBE, Thomson Consumer Electronics, Sharp Electronics Corp., Pace Micro Technology Americas, Matsushita Electric Corp. of America (Panasonic), SeaChange International Inc., CommScope Inc., Samsung Electronics America Inc., Pioneer New Media Technologies Inc., Mitsubishi Electrics and Electronics USA and Sencore Electronics.
The National Show will run June 8 through 11 in Chicago.
