HBO's Greenlight Gets Green Light

Home Box Office has approved a second season of Project Greenlight.
The series -- about the making of a feature film written and directed by the winner of an online script contest -- premiered last fall to rave reviews and was nominated for a Emmy Award last month. The series attracted some 1.9 million households and 2.7 million viewers on average for its 12 premiere installments.
This time around, the episodes will team up winners of separate writing and directing contests to make the same film, which -- like the first one, Stolen Summer -- will be released theatrically by The Walt Disney Co. subsidiary Miramax Films.
Stolen Summer received poor reviews when it premiered earlier this year, and it only made $134,000 at the box office.
Miramax will launch the writer/director online contests Sept. 19, with entries due Oct. 2. The winners will be selected at the Sundance Film Festival in January in Utah, and what transpires from there will be carried on HBO that summer.
With the new-season pact, HBO also announced the availability of a first-season Greenlight DVD box set Sept. 24, containing Stolen Summer and additional commentary.
