Comcast Cable Communications Inc. said Tuesday that it has launched video-on-demand to more than 300,000 customers in two of its northern New Jersey systems, Union and Plainfield.
That brings the MSO's total of VOD-ready homes to 3 million, the company said in a press release.
Comcast's Eastern division alone has introduced VOD to 420,000 customers, including 117,000 last month in central New Jersey, a spokeswoman said.
The numbers represent both analog- and digital-cable customers within VOD-ready systems, although customers need digital-cable boxes to access VOD.
Northern New Jersey Comcast customers will have access to recent theatricals for $3.95 per title, library movies at $2.95 and a mix of children's content, TV, concerts and specials ranging from 95 cents to $1.95 each.
Comcast has not yet rolled out subscription-VOD services in New Jersey.
The MSO will educate its customers about VOD through a combination of cross-channel spots and direct mail.
