Cablevision Systems Corp. announced Tuesday that it has begun offering local HDTV channels to its iO: Interactive Optimum digital-cable subscribers.
Starting Tuesday, the iO HDTV tier added New York CBS affiliate WCBS-TV, Thirteen/WNET New York, digital channel Kids Thirteen and a digital version of New York Fox affiliate WNYW-5 to its list, which already included HD feeds from Showtime Networks Inc., Home Box Office, Madison Square Garden Network and Fox Sports New York.
The announcement came as part of the MSO’s presentation at a conference in New York being held by Merrill Lynch & Co.
Due to cost issues, direct-broadcast satellite services do not provide local channels in HDTV.
HDTV boxes are available to iO subscribers at no additional cost. The MSO tallied nearly 600,000 iO customers as of June 30.
