Four HD Nets Enter the Voom

Rainbow DBS said Thursday that its Voom direct-broadcast satellite service now offers 30 HD channels with the addition of four networks to its list.

Cablevision Systems Corp.-owned Voom added NFL Network, Playboy Television, Starz! HD East and Starz! HD West to its HD lineup.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Rainbow DBS also introduced the "Voom HD Home Media Network," a whole-house solution designed specifically for HD programming, which is expected to roll out this summer.

The new solution -- using embedded software from Ucentric Systems -- will feature an HD digital-video recorder that can record and play back HD video programming in its intended format.
