SMPTE Names New Hollywood Head

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/20/2004 8:56:00 AM

Warner Bros. Advanced Media Services Inc. vice president of engineering Daniel S. Rosen has been elected chairman of the Hollywood section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

The Hollywood section has about 1,500 members from all sectors of the entertainment industry.

"SMPTE was founded in 1916 for the purpose of recommending technology standards and practices, which expanded the horizons of content creators for the new motion-picture industry," Rosen said in a prepared statement. "It formed close ties with the American Society of Cinematographers when that organization was founded in 1919.”

He continued, “We are committed to re-energizing our historic connection with the ASC and other individuals and organizations responsible for creating entertainment content for the motion-picture and television industries, because new technology that doesn't serve the needs of the story-tellers is merely an intellectual exercise."
