OLN Scales Everest, on Tape

By Simon Applebaum -- Multichannel News, 5/30/2003 7:46:00 AM

The Mt. Everest climb conclusion of Outdoor Life Network's Global Extremes series will turn up this weekend -- just not live.

OLN planned all along to carry a live attempt to summit Mt. Everest earlier this week, but it was thwarted on short notice by adverse weather.

The summit attempt did take place Thursday afternoon, but OLN scrapped a live feed due "to the loss of the satellite window from the mountain," according to a released statement. Instead, the attempt was recorded and will be presented on the network in its entirety June 1 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.

In addition to the attempt, OLN will provide studio analysis and post-climb reports, hosted by Kirsten Gum and Craig Hummer.

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., prime sponsor of Global Extremes, will be the special's lead advertiser.
