FCC Docks Mediacom $8,000

By Ted Hearn -- Multichannel News, 1/30/2003 12:57:00 PM

Chairman and CEO Rocco Commisso's Mediacom Communications Corp. owes the Federal Communications Commission $8,000 -- the amount the cable company was fined Thursday for failing to maintain operational emergency-alert-system equipment in Jefferson City, Mo.

The Federal Communications Commission alerted Mediacom of the potential fine in November, but the agency said the MSO failed to respond to the notice.

Mediacom has 30 days to make the payment in order to avoid a Department of Justice referral.
