BellSouth Signs with Dell, BroadJump

BellSouth Corp. said it has inked deals with Dell Computer Corp. and BroadJump Inc. as part of an effort to drive subscriptions to its 'FastAccess' digital-subscriber-line service.
In the first agreement, Dell and BellSouth said they will jointly market and sell DSL-capable PCs in the telco's territories beginning sometime in the second quarter. Those 'plug-and-play' machines will come equipped with preinstalled DSL modems.
The deal also calls for Dell to market computer systems and servers to BellSouth's commercial customers.
Those PCs will house BroadJump's 'Virtual Truck' software suite, which handles DSL prequalifications and self-installations. BellSouth also agreed to deploy BroadJump's 'CorrectConnect' system, which enables service providers to test and maintain subscribers' broadband connections.
By the end of the year, BellSouth plans to expand its DSL footprint to 63 cities and to triple its high-speed-subscriber base to more than 600,000.
