McGuirk Joins Wink

By Matt Stump -- Multichannel News, 7/22/2002 8:59:00 AM

Former TviFusion Inc. president Bryan McGuirk has joined Wink Communications Inc. as president of programming and advertising sales.

'Bryan brings the perfect blend of large company and start-up sales-leadership experience that will help us to expand our opportunity and realize new revenues,' Wink CEO Maggie Wilderotter said in a prepared statement.

In other interactive-TV news, Microsoft Corp. plucked another executive from Liberate Technologies.

John Walthall was named director of worldwide sales for the Microsoft TV Division. He had been vice president of sales for the Americas at Liberate. Microsoft said Walthall will have responsibility over Microsoft's thin-client and media-center-device strategy.

Separately, Liberate said it's repurchasing 3.9 million shares of stock owned by Cisco Systems Inc. The $9.96 million stock repurchase is not included in the company's fiscal-year-2003 cash-burn forecast.

Liberate has 103.2 million shares outstanding.
