Weather Celebrates La. Purchase

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 4/15/2003 8:32:00 AM

In an unusual integrated ad campaign, The Weather Channel announced Tuesday that the Louisiana Office of Tourism is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase by sponsoring trivia spots and a related Web-site section on weather.com (www.weather.com).

The tourism organization is also sponsoring the first live and on-the-road broadcast of the network's Your Weather Today April 28 and 29, when it will originate from the New Orleans Riverwalk, near the Aquarium of the Americas.

TWC has been airing Louisiana Tourism's 30-second spots since January featuring trivia questions about the Louisiana Purchase. In addition, the tourism organization is sponsoring a related section on the network's Internet site -- expanded earlier this month to include a sweepstakes -- with links to the Louisiana Tourism site.

The Louisiana Purchase from France -- which doubled the size of the United States in 1803 -- was made for $15 million, but the companies aren't saying how much this deal is worth.
