By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/1/2001 1:41:00 PM

Pay-per-view event revenue declined 4 percent in the second quarter, according to a study released by Showtime Event Television.

The event industry generated an estimated $126.7 million in the second quarter, down from the $131.6 million produced in the year-earlier period. According to SET's quarterly report, there were 23 events during this year's second quarter versus 25 in 2000.

Per usual, wrestling and boxing accounted for the lion's share of event revenue, generating $83.5 million and $40.2 million, respectively. Together, the categories amassed 97 percent of event revenues during the span.

The top four events for the period were all in the World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. camp: WrestleMania X-Seven (April 1), King of the Ring (June 24), Backlash (April 29) and Judgment Day (May 20).
