HGTV Has Five More Years to Be Divine

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 9/22/2004 12:37:00 PM

Home & Garden Television has inked Candice Olson, host of its popular Divine Design series, to a new five-year, exclusive contract across a variety of media.

HGTV also reached agreement with Fusion Television to continue producing future episodes of the series.

Under the deal, terms of which were not disclosed, Olson will be exclusive to HGTV in all television, broadband and Internet delivery in the United States, and she secures TV retailing rights for HGTV's sister network, Shop at Home.

The pact also calls for Olson to make periodic public appearances on behalf of the network, while future plans include the publishing of her books under the HGTV imprint and a branded series of columns syndicated through Scripps Howard News Service.

Divine Design debuted on HGTV in June 2003 and has since aired four 13-episode seasons. A network spokeswoman, citing company policy, would not spell out ratings specifics other than to say that the series immediately entered HGTV’s top 10 upon launch.
