Comcast, Time Warner Eye Sports Tiers

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 5/14/2003 7:32:00 AM

Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable are talking with Cablevision Systems Corp.'s Madison Square Garden Network and Fox Sports New York about moving the two regional sports networks to a premium sports tier as early as this summer, according to sources close to the situation.

The new deal would resemble the Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network-Cablevision deal in that MSGN and FSNY would be placed in a sports tier or sold on an a-la-carte basis for around $1.95, sources said.

Also similar to the YES-Cablevision deal, the MSOs would pay MSGN and Fox Sports licensing fees for at least 51 percent of their subscribers.
