National Lampoon Buys College Net

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 9/9/2002 7:48:00 AM

J2 Communications' National Lampoon purchased the assets of college cable channel Burly Bear Network from Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video and Constellation Ventures.

The deal, for an unspecified combination of cash and stock, not only gives National Lampoon the cable-delivered network -- which reaches some 3.5 million students at 400 colleges -- but archival programming that was created to entertain the college crowd.

Burly Bear, which ceased operations in July, had secured a late-night one-hour programming block on TBS Superstation that began running last September.
