Time Warner Readies Milwaukee Net

Add Milwaukee to the list of cities Time Warner Cable is eyeing for all-news services.
The company plans to launch a news network for the Milwaukee area in the summer of 2004. As a first step, Time Warner ordered more than $500,000 in automated equipment from OmniBus Systems Inc. Time Warner's New York 1 News already uses OmniBus' gear.
Until now, Time Warner has focused its all-news-channel-development efforts on the East Coast in areas where its cable systems reach most homes, such as Orlando, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C.
The MSO plans to launch news channels in at least two other markets far from the coast next year -- Houston and San Antonio. Development is also under way for proposed channels in Albany and Syracuse, N.Y.
The Milwaukee news channel is expected to adopt the formula practiced elsewhere: Half-hour segments featuring news, sports and weather updates, lifestyle profiles and entertainment news.
