DISH DVR Campaign Targets TiVo

EchoStar Communications Corp. announced Monday that DISH Network is introducing its DISH Player-DVR 510 -- in hopes of taking share away from personal-video-recorder company TiVo Inc., a spokesman added.
Positioning that as the first combination satellite TV receiver/digital video recorder, DISH Network will offer this unit -- and its DISH Video On Demand service -- free to new customers as part of its latest 'Free DISH' promotion.
EchoStar said its DISH Network television and print ad campaign will run from now through the holiday season.
Print ads later this week will tout free DVR, free three-room hookup plus three free months of its 'Value Pak' programming.
The company noted that the free DISH promotion requires a $49.99 activation fee (to be credited to the customer's first bill) plus a 12-month commitment to either 'America's Top 50' or 'DISH Latino' packages.
Small print also notes that DISH is on sale at RadioShack and Sears, Roebuck & Co. stores.
