By Matt Stump -- Multichannel News, 10/4/2004 8:44:00 AM

Universal Electronics Inc. announced that it is buying software provider SimpleDevices Inc. for $12.5 million.

SimpleDevices makes software and firmware solutions that enable TVs, set-tops, stereos, automotive audio systems and other consumer-electronics products to wirelessly connect and interact with home networks.

"The acquisition of SimpleDevices further builds our strategic vision for delivering seamless digital-media connectivity, whether the user is at home, in the car or on the go," UEI chairman Paul Arling said in a prepared statement.
