Courtroom Television Network and half-parent AOL Time Warner Inc. will collaborate on a project commemorating the 50th anniversary in 2004 of the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The project's most public face will be a series of Court TV vignettes exploring the decision's legacy, with AOL Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons and U.S. secretary of education Rod Paige among the participants. The vignettes will premiere on Court TV this fall and continue through the actual 50th-anniversary date, May 17.
Parsons and Paige, along with Court TV CEO Henry Schleiff, will appear together at a National Association for Minorities in Communications conference session Sept. 16 on the decision and the state of diversity in media. The session will serve as the project's kickoff, and Cheryl Brown Henderson, daughter of plaintiff Oliver Brown, will be a special guest.
The court ruled that segregation by race violated the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees equal protection for all U.S. citizens.
