MBC Shelves Stand-Alone News Net

Looking to future cultivate its newsgathering and programming, Major Broadcasting Corp. said it will postpone the scheduled January debut of its 24-hour MBC News Network until the end of 2004.

In the interim, the African-American-targeted network will boost the news presence on its core channel, Major Broadcasting Cable Network, according to officials.

To supplement its nightly MBC News, the network will launch during first-quarter 2004 a morning news show, Headlines with Coffee; expand its weekly Health for the Nation into a daily strip show; and move its weekend MBC Sports Desk show to late-night.
