ESPN and Next Generation Network have reached an agreement whereby the former will provide content to digital screens at more than 7,000 locations across the nation, the parties announced Monday.
ESPN will supply scoring updates and headlines to NGN's out-of-home network, which the Minneapolis-based company claims delivers 54 million impressions weekly to consumers waiting in line.
NGN has placed more than 7,200 screens in such retail outlets as McDonald's Corp. and 7-Eleven Inc., as well as in pharmacies, transit stations and office buildings.
NGN intersperses customized content -- including news, weather and entertainment -- with advertisements. Advertising opportunities on NGN's networks will be available as part of the ESPN/ABC Sports multiplatform advertising portfolio
'NGN's network allows us to reach a significant number of viewers in a situation where they have the time and mind-set to pay attention,' ESPN vice president Rick Alessandri said in a prepared statement. 'Sports fans who might otherwise miss news and scores because they are away from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPN Radio and ESPN.com can now stay informed while on the go.'
'We are delighted to have ESPN join us as a content partner,' NGN president and chief operating officer Tracy Crocker said in a prepared statement. 'Americans recognize ESPN as the leader in sports reporting and trust it as their source for accurate and up-to-date sports news.'
