Starz's Jacobson Returns to Hill

After a five-year term leading Starz Encore Group LLC's public-relations/corporate-communications squad, Paul Jacobson is back on Capitol Hill patrol as deputy communications director for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.).
Jacobson completed his tour of Starz duty Jan. 10, but word of his exit and appointment to Frist's staff came out Monday afternoon through a Starz-issued press release.
Frist became Senate Majority Leader when Trent Lott (R-Miss.) stepped down from that role after encountering furor over remarks he made late last year at a birthday party for 100-year-old outgoing Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.).
Starz Encore CEO John Sie praised Jacobson for his efforts, "guiding our corporate-communications team across a wide variety of initiatives."
The company "will sorely miss him, but understand fully Sen. Frist's immediate need for [a] contribution in [his] new role as Senate Majority Leader," Sie said in a prepared statement.
Previously, Jacobson served as deputy press secretary for former Sens. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and Warren Rudman (R-N.H.).
After that round of congressional work, he became a spokesperson at Comsat, then corporate-communications director of Ascent Entertainment Group Inc., which produces motion pictures and owns professional-sports-league franchises in Denver (the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets and the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche).
