Shaw to Roll Out DOCSIS 2.0

In a drive to boost capacity and data capabilities, Canada’s Shaw Cablesystems G.P. will roll out Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 2.0-based modems in Calgary and Vancouver beginning this fall.
The Calgary-based MSO will begin selecting cable-modem-termination systems and modems for the deployment in the coming months.
DOCSIS 2.0 uses advanced-physical-layer technology to boost the upstream bandwidth of cable-data systems, and it filters out common noise in the upstream channel.
"This next generation of cable-modem technology will give us the ability to offer our consumer and business customers a whole new spectrum of advanced IP-based [Internet protocol] cable services such as dedicated bandwidth, guaranteed levels of services, peer-to-peer communications and videoconferencing applications," said Michael D'Avella, Shaw’s senior vice president of planning, in a release.
"We will be the first Canadian cable provider to adopt this leading-edge technology and develop new services on this platform," he added.
