Former Cablevision Systems Corp. executive David Wicks is now serving as chairman of the board of directors for Cable Positive.
Wicks -- who had been with the MSO's new-media division and now runs his own consultantcy -- assumes the leadership position from National Cable & Telecommunications Association senior vice president of communications and public affairs Rob Stoddard after a two-year term.
Wicks had been first vice chairman of the national nonprofit organization, the mission of which is to organize the industry's resources in the fight against AIDS.
Showtime senior VP for human resources Ray Gutierrez and Crown Media Holdings Inc. executive VP, worldwide marketing and brand management Chris Moseley joined the organization's 21-member board during Diversity Week proceedings.
In an election held by Cable Positive's board during Diversity Week, other newly elected members of the group's executive committee include: first VP, Larry Oliver, Reed Television Group (publisher of Multichannel News); second VP, Meredith Wagner, Lifetime Entertainment Services; treasurer, Stuart Benson, Sundance Channel; secretary, Stoddard; and member-at-large, Dennis Mangers, California Cable Telecommunications Association.
Veteran Cable Positive Board members Seth Morrison and Corrine Beller stepped down from their posts.
'In our industry, there are few people as qualified or as highly respected as David Wicks. He's a great choice to chair the Cable Positive board of directors,' Stoddard said.
'David has a true passion for fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS, as he's already demonstrated by his commitment to Cable Positive's grants committee and development committee,' he added. 'David's broad experience in cable will help him to identify the best and most effective ways in which the industry can fight this battle to educate our customers and industry employees about the disease.'
