Sony Regroups

Sony Corp. said it is realigning its operating units into seven groups, four of which will figure prominently for cable operators.

While the entertainment group will house the company's traditional film and music division, Sony is creating a home-networking group that will focus on next-generation TVs and Internet-linking products.

A separate broadband-network company will focus on devices and linkages to game machines. The company will also create a broadband-game business unit.

In line with that, Sony Online Entertainment announced that Level 3 Communications Inc. is providing nationwide network services to support Sony's Everquest online game.
