Travel's Cheskin Prepares to Depart

The man who has been heading Travel Channel for almost the past three years is now about to do a little traveling of his own.
Executive vice president and general manager Steve Cheskin announced his resignation after spending the past 18 years with Discovery Networks U.S.
A Discovery spokeswoman said Cheskin, whose contract expired this week, is pursuing an unspecified new opportunity. His last day will be May 9.
The spokeswoman said a search committee has been formed to find a successor.
Cheskin's departure continues the exodus of Discovery veterans over the past two years.
On Valentine's Day, 13-year veteran John Ford left his position as president of new media. Discovery Networks president Jonathan Rodgers left in March 2001.
Elsewhere, over the past few years, Mike Quattrone, GM of Discovery Channel; his wife, Kathy Quattrone, GM of Discovery Health Channel; Jana Bennett, The Learning Channel's GM; and Charley Humbard, GM of Discovery's digi-nets, have all left.
On the hiring side, Discovery has recruited Hollywood veteran Billy Campbell for Rodgers' job; tapped Vivian Schiller, a veteran of Cable News Network, to lead the recently revamped Discovery Times Channel; and hired Joe Abruzzese, CBS' former head of ad sales, to head up that part of the business.
