Newport Beach, Calif.- Conexant Systems Inc. and Liberate Technologies said they would team up to develop of a set-top-box platform for the satellite, terrestrial and cable industries.
That platform's reference design, set for completion by early next year, will integrate Conexant's interactive-TV decoder with Liberate's "TV Platform" middleware to pave the way for advanced interactive-TV applications and personal video recording capabilities, the companies said.
Both companies will jointly market and sell the set-top platform. The final line of products will comply with set-tops based on the coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing, Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification, EuroDOCSIS, Digital Video Broadcast and Digital Audio-Video Interoperability Council standards, the companies said.
In related news, Next Level Communications and Conexant agreed to collaborate on a VDSL (very high speed digital subscriber line) gateway device that incorporates Conexant's "CX22490" interactive-television decoder.
