Redback Pays $636M For Abatis Systems

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/6/2000 8:00:00 PM

Sunnyvale, Calif.-Redback Networks Inc. said it has inked a deal to acquire Vancouver-based Abatis Systems Corp. for about $636 million in Redback common stock.

Abatis has developed management tools designed to reduce the cost and complexity of "value-added" Internet-protocol services.

According to Redback, Abatis' technology will be added to its suite of subscriber-management services, allowing its carrier and service-provider customers to generate additional revenue.

Specifically, Abatis' line of IP-edge devices can be used at the customer premise to deliver and enforce IP services such as virtual private networks and voice over IP, the companies said.

Redback currently has an installed base of more than 2,700 subscriber-management systems.
