Merger Reviewer Steps Aside

Washington-To-Quyen Truong, a Federal Communications Commission staffer helping to review America Online Inc.'s merger with Time Warner Inc., withdrew from the agency's review of the deal last week.
Truong, associate chief of the FCC's Cable Services Bureau, stepped aside as a precaution against a conflict of interest while she is likely pursuing other employment opportunities, an FCC source said.
Truong leads the CSB's merger-review team under the direction of bureau chief Deborah Lathen. Truong had a key role in shaping the conditions that accompanied the FCC's June 5 approval of AT & T Corp.'s merger with MediaOne Group Inc.
