Scripps Networks has struck its first programming deal for the new Fine Living network, a partnership to create shows with the Mobil Travel Guide.
"It is possible we will have Mobil be our partner on several shows where it is appropriate," said Susan Packard, president of Scripps Networks New Ventures. "Where it's appropriate, it will also provide content for our Web site."
Fine Living, slated to debut in the third quarter next year, is a luxury lifestyle network that will focus on five categories: fine dining and entertaining; personal transportation and technology; homes and real estate; exotic travel; and personal finance.
Mobil Travel Guide offers a one-star to five-star rating system for restaurants, hotels, motels, inns and resorts in more than 3,000 towns and cities in the U.S. and Canada. The regional Mobil Travel Guides contain information on more than 22,000 hotels, motels and restaurants in 3,000 cities.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Scripps in bringing the Mobil Travel Guide's content to cable," Ken Koppel, acting CEO of Mobil Travel Guide, said in a prepared statement. "Their proven ability to produce entertaining and informative programming gives us confidence that the high standards of travel ratings and guidance developed by our partner Mobil [Corp.], now ExxonMobil [Corp.], will be well-translated to video and the Internet."
Packard said she hopes to be able to announce some distribution deals for Fine Living later this month at the Western Show.
