HDTV Invades Europe

By 2008, 17.4 million European homes will have HD-capable TV sets, and 2.6 million of those homes will have bought set-top boxes to receive HD broadcasts, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics Inc.

Europeans bought 70,000 HDTV displays in 2003, according to "HDTV in Europe: This Time It's for Real."

The report also suggested that manufacturers, programmers and broadcasters establish a European HDTV forum "to coordinate standards and avoid unnecessary market fragmentation."
