Scientific-Atlanta Inc. extended its winning record in its legal tiff with Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. over interactive-programming-guide patents, this time gaining another summary-judgment victory from the U.S. District Court for Georgia’s Northern District.
The court granted S-A’s motion for a summary judgment Friday, agreeing that the cable-gear maker’s set-top-box design does not infringe on Gemstar’s patent No. 4,751,578 covering aspects of IPG technology.
That follows a judgment the court made earlier this month that cleared S-A of infringing on two other patents regarding IPG technology.
This was the latest in the multisuit struggle between the two companies, and thus far, S-A has prevailed. But it isn’t over -- there are still other legal motions filed by both sides that are working their way through the Georgia court-filing system.
