NAMIC Gets Ex-Presidential Help

By Simon Applebaum -- Multichannel News, 4/15/2003 8:36:00 AM

Former President Bill Clinton's foundation has formed a new partnership connecting the National Association of Minorities in Communications' New York chapter with Harlem small-business owners.

Under a four-year agreement, NAMIC and Clinton's Presidential Foundation will provide new Gateway Inc. computers and Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft Office" training to eight owners participating in a pilot program at the Harlem Small Business Initiative.

Each business will get a PC, applicable software and training by 2005, with training sessions taking place at the Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center.

One training course started at the center April 7, and it will continue through May 27.

In announcing the effort, Clinton mentioned the national NAMIC Digital Bridge Alliance project as the model for this. NAMIC's participation is "crucial to the success of this initiative," he said in a prepared statement.
